The 1976 Summer Olympics begin in Montreal, Canada on July 17. The Finish runner, Lasse Virén, wins the 10 000m at and then removes his shoes (Onitsuka Tiger) holding them over his head. The IOC charges him with malicious intent.

The 1976 Winter Olympics begin in Innsbruck, Austria on February 4th.
The Apple Computer Company is formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak on the 1st April. On April 11, they release the first apple computer, the Apple 1.
On July 30, Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner) wins the gold medal in the men’s decathlon at the 1976 Olympics.
The first known outbreak of Ebola virus is reported in Yambuku, Zaire on August 26.
