Ulcers/Wounds

Loss of skin viability with exposure of dermis and/or subdermal tissues

Types of wounds:
Acute – wound caused by trauma or surgery
Chronic – wound that takes longer than usual to heal because if underlying causes
Laceration – wound that is ‘torn’ or has jagged edges
Partial thickness – wound that the tissue destruction is through the epidermis and extends into, but not through the dermis
Full thickness – wound that the tissue destruction extends through the dermis
