Nike Inc started out as ‘Blue Ribbon Sports’. It was founded by University of Oregon athlete Philip Knight and the coach Bill Bowerman in January of 1964. They were initially distributors for Onitsuka Tiger that later became ASICS. They did business out of the back of their cars at track meets. Bowerman used a waffle iron to make the first shoe.
