Feelmax was founded in 1993 by Juhani Pulkka and started by manufacturing 'toe socks' with 'barefoot shoes' being first produced in 2006. They are based in Helsinki, Finland (each of the shoes display the Finnish flag). The toe socks are manufactured in Daegu, South-Korea and the shoes are manufactured in Bangkok, Thailand.
While Feelmax make a range of shoes, not all of them a suitable for running. Some of the ones that are used by 'barefoot' runners include the Osma, Vasko and the Niesa. A key design feature of these shoes is the outer sole is only 1.3mm thick and is made by the Continental Tire Company. Feelmax have a number of patents for their design features.
Commentary:
- marketing is largely based on the natural running philosophy and the appeal to nature fallacy.
- the website does recommend that purchasers order shoes one size smaller than their normal size as the shoe fit 'snugly'.
