Over-the-counter drug

eg Tylenol®

Similar to aspirin (has analgesic and antipyretic properties) but does not have anti-inflammatory properties (may have weak or anti-inflammatory effect) or suppress platelet aggregation.

Mechanism of pain control effects not clear - believed to only inhibit prostaglandins in CNS

Absorbed rapidly and completely from GI tract; widely distributed; crosses placental barrier

Metabolised by liver; excreted by kidney and in breast milk
