Lapidus:
Fusion of first metatarsal-cuneiform joint if first ray is unstable of hypermobile (decrease stiffness)
Used for high intermetatarsal angle (<15°) and/or pain/osteoarthritis at first metatarsal-cuneiform joint.
Shortens first metatarsal unless used with bone graft
Fixation and immobilisation for 10-12 weeks
5 cm incision over tarsometatarsal joint medial to EHL- careful of medial dorsocutaneous nerve
Expose joint resect
K-wire fixation
