Cherry Picking

Commentary:

  • Unrelated example of cherry picking is the use of a religious bible to argue or make a point, but then not apply or use other points in that same bible. For example, in the Christian Bible, Exodus 31:15 says something like (depending on the version) “For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.” Those who use the Bible to argue for, for example, a ban on same-sex marriages are not arguing to put to death anyone who works on Sunday’s. That is cherry picking.
