Potassium:
Measure blood plasma protein value (3 types of protein- albumin, globulins, fibrinogen)
Normally 3.5-5.1 mmol/l.
Increase dehydration; trauma; metabolic acidosis; renal disease; hyperadrenalism
Decrease diuretic therapy; vomiting; laxatives; diarrhoea; Cushing’s syndrome; burns; trauma; surgery
