Pancreatic transplantation:
Usually only used in those with type 2 diabetes and end-stage renal failure who are getting a kidney transplant.
Need immunosuppression with drugs that are diabetogenic. High surgical risk (eg thrombosis).
50% are do not need exogenous insulin after 5 years quality of life issues (no insulin injections, reduced risk of hypoglycaemia, no need for self monitoring of blood glucose, etc)
