Plantar Compartments of the foot
3 facial compartments – divided by two intermuscular septa.
Medial – abductor hallucis and flexor hallucis brevis muscles
Lateral – abductor digiti minimi and flexor digiti minimi brevis muscles
Central – flexor digitorum brevis, quadratus plantae, lumbricals, interossei, adductor hallucis. Also contains tendons of flexor hallucis longus and flexor digitorum longus – as they enter compartment the tendons cross – band of connective tissue ‘loops’ tendons here to bind them to navicular – called ‘master knot of Henry’
