Metatarsal head resection

Indications:
• severe osteoarthritis or rheumatoid dislocation of metatarsal heads; painful plantar callostion

Technique:
• dorsal 4-5cm incisions between met heads
• retract extensor mechanism to explore neck
• resect neck with saw blade
• McGlamry retractor used to remove fragment- may do partial proximal phalangestomy
