The Turntec running shoe brand was started in the early 1980’s by Jerry Turner after he left Brooks. It became part of the American Sporting Goods group brands which is now owned by the Brown Shoe Company. The brand was innovative and popular with runners in the 1980’s, but declined in prominence after that, but the brand is still available today. The Turntec Roadhawk and Road Warrior were the popular models with runners in the 1980’s.

Currently the Turntec brand has two running shoe models available catering for the lower price points of the running shoe market; the Expanse TR and Blast. Not a lot is known about these shoes.

My Turntec shoes fell apart the second time I wore them. Sole came off.
I used to be a very active runner, competing in Cross Country and Track in high school and college. I was not really loyal to any brand and tried most of what was available in the 70s and 80s – Nike, Asics, Saucony, New Balance, etc. In decades of running there was only one shoe that I would call “terrible” and that I could definitively blame for leading to an injury. That was a pair of Turntecs. Just awful. I can remember trying to be tough and run through the pain they were causing, because that’s what was considered “manly”. The Turntec shoes injured me.
my turntecs were just awesome. i would purchase another pair if the company were still in business. they didn’t fall apart after years of use as jay claimed, and i have no idea what benny is talking about. i don’t think it was the turntec shoes that injured you, it must have been something else. i remember one time i called brooks to complain about having a lump in the sole of a shoe i had purchased. they refunded my purchase, but i’ve always felt like a fool not being able to tell the difference between a callous and a manufacturing defect
