Kooyong is a suburb in Melbourne located 7 km south-east of the CBD. It is thought that the name, Kooyong, derives from an Aboriginal word that means camp or resting place, or haunt of the wild fowl. The area had a 2021 census population of 842 and is the second most expensive suburb of Melbourne in terms of house prices. Kooyong is most well know for the Kooyong tennis stadium which opened in 1927. The suburb is also known for its prestigious private schools, including Scotch College and Korowa Anglican Girls’ School. Kooyong is in the postal code of 3144.
