Gained in popularity as method of stretching.
Also called CRAC (contract relax antagonist contract)
Focuses on stimulation of proprioceptors, Golgi tendon organs and nerve endings to increase range of motion.
Simplified 3 steps in facilitated stretching:
1) Actively stretch the target muscle
2) Isometrically contract the target muscle
3) Actively stretch the target muscle
