Flexibility/Stretching

Dynamic flexibility (stiffness) – th forces that resist throughput it range of motion (hard to measure)
Static flexibility – range of motion of joint (easy to measure)

Basic principles:
• adequate warm up before stretching
• stretching carried out before and after exercise
• stretching should be gentle and slow
• stretch to point of tension and not pain

Patients should be placed on stretching/flexibility program when deficits are found.

Benefits of flexibility:
• prevent injury
• reduce muscle soreness
• skill enhancement
• relaxation of muscle
