Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)

Gained in popularity as method of stretching.

Also called CRAC (contract relax antagonist contract)

Focuses on stimulation of proprioceptors, Golgi tendon organs and nerve endings  to increase range of motion.

Simplified 3 steps in facilitated stretching:
1) Actively stretch the target muscle
2) Isometrically contract the target muscle
3) Actively stretch the target muscle
