The monitoring of the concentrations of drugs in body fluids for therapeutic reasons. Used to increase the efficacy of the drug and to decrease the toxicity of the drug. For some drugs the response of individuals is so variable, that the choice of dosing regimen can be difficult
Drugs with a low therapeutic index need individualised dosing.
