Dantrolene

Dantrolene:
• acts directly on muscle by suppressing release of calcium from sarcoplasmic reticulum  muscle is less able to contract (does not affect smooth or cardiac muscle at therapeutic doses)
• does result in reduced muscle strength  spasticity reduction may result in an overall reduction in function
• used for multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury
• adverse effects – liver toxicity
