Corticosteroids / Adrenal drugs / adrenocorticol hormones

Two types:
1) Glucocorticoids  suppress inflammation, alter immune response, promote sodium and water retention and potassium excretion; all cells have receptors for glucocorticoids; used for adrenocorticol insufficiency and treatment of neoplasia, autoimmune disease, cerebral oedema and inflammatory joint disease. eg betamethasone, cortisone, dexamethasone, hydrocortisone, prednisolone
2) Mineralocorticoids  enhance resorption of sodium and chloride and promote excretion of potassium and hydrogen. Used for replacement therapy in adrenal insufficiency eg fludrocortisone
