C Reactive Protein (CRP):
Nonspecific test for inflammatory process. Present in trace amounts normally – increased amounts can be detected within 6 hours of the onset of an inflammatory reaction. Measured by latex agglutination test or rocket electrophoresis.
Connective tissue disease mild elevation
Bacterial infections high elevation
Usually falls when inflammation decreases can be used to monitor inflammataory process.
