Blood:
• Routinely used for testing
• Phlebotomist takes sample – usually from vein in forearm.
• needle is inserted into vein then fitted to an evacuated tube, so several samples can be collected
• containers with different additives are used
• many samples need to be prevented from clotting
Small drop of blood from finger tip prick is used for blood glucose levels – analysed by the use of a glucometer
