Suicide and deliberate self harm (DSH)

Suicide:
About 1% of all deaths, but considered widely under-reported

Risk factors:
SAD PERSONS – Sex (males); Age; Depression; Previous attempt; Ethanol abuse; Rational thinking loss; Social support lacking; Organised plan; No pastimes; Sickness

Deliberate self-harm:
Intentional, but non-fatal self-inflicted self-injury, self-poisoning and/or overdose.
Annual incidence could be as high as 2-3/1000

Management:
Address social difficulties
Psychotherapy
