Aneurysmal bone cyst
Benign osteolytic lesion of bone (blood filled cyst) – consists of proliferation of vascular tissue; F>M; rapidly growing (unusual for benign lesion);
Occurs in metaphyseal region of long bones, pelvis and vertebrae.
Uncommon >30yrs.
Pain and swelling; may have pathological fracture.
X-ray – radiolucent eccentric area with expanded cortex – cortical thinning, erosion and periosteal elevation.
Treatment – curettage or excision.
