Leptospirosis:
Weil’s disease – caused by L. icterohaemorrhagiae; from contact with infected rat urine; abrupt onset with headache, fever, vomiting, red eye, leg muscle tender, haemoptysis; treatment - benzylpenicillin

Yaws:
• granulomatous disease, mainly affecting skin and bone
• due to Treponema pertenue – transmitted by contact with infected person
• WHO campaigns have eradicated it from large areas – mostly now found in West and central Africa and South Pacific
