Diverticulosis:
Outpouching of the intestinal walls – solitary (diverticulum; uncommon) or multiple (diverticulosis); 95% in sigmoid colon; most are asymptomatic
Lack of dietary fibre is thought to be a major risk factor.
Clinical features – colicky pain; irregular defecation; bloating; excessive flatulence
Management – increase in dietary fibre
