The Horwood Extension is an extension of the anterior edge of the foot orthotic shell to exaggerate the metatarsal parabola by lengthening the shell, generally 10mm under metatarsals 2 to 4. It was first described by Andy Horwood.
The aim is to reduce load on the central metatarsal heads which may be helpful for conditions by Freiberg’s disease.
