Characterised by yellow/green discolouration. 2 of 3 cases have the 3 features of yellow nails, lymphoedema and pleural effusions (or other respiratory condition). Ankle oedema common. Family history rare. M > F. Nails grow slowly.
Discolouration may be due to poor lymphatic drainage or oxidation of lipid compounds in nail. Often also get longitudinal and transverse ridges – also exaggerated lateral curvature.
Associated with renal and respiratory abnormalities, malignancies, thyroid disease, rheumatoid arthritis
Treatment – symptomatic management of medical problems. Spontaneous resolution has been reported with resolution of systemic symptoms
