Wood’s light

Wood’s light:
Uses long wave UV radiation (365nm) – produces fluorescence of skin in dark room

Technique:
Switch off room lighting – hold UV light 10-15cm from skin. Note any fluorescence and colour:

Bright yellow green  Microsporum audouini (tinea capitis)
Pale green  Trichophyton schoenleini (tinea capitis)
Coral-red or pink  erythasma
Cold bright blue  depigmentation
Blue white  hypopigmentation
Purple brown Hyperpigmentation
Cold bright white  albinism
Blue-white  leprosy
Golden-yellow  Tinea versicolour
