Wood’s light:
Uses long wave UV radiation (365nm) – produces fluorescence of skin in dark room
Technique:
Switch off room lighting – hold UV light 10-15cm from skin. Note any fluorescence and colour:
Bright yellow green Microsporum audouini (tinea capitis)
Pale green Trichophyton schoenleini (tinea capitis)
Coral-red or pink erythasma
Cold bright blue depigmentation
Blue white hypopigmentation
Purple brown Hyperpigmentation
Cold bright white albinism
Blue-white leprosy
Golden-yellow Tinea versicolour
