Gastrocnemius:
• patient prone or supine with knee extended.
• supports the leg proximal to the ankle.
• test plantarflexion of the ankle joint without inverting or everting foot by having the patient plantarflex the foot against a force applied to the entire plantar surface of the foot – be careful not to dorsiflex the forefoot on the rearfoot.
