Gluteus medius

Gluteus medius:
Proximal attachment – between anterior and posterior gluteal lines of ilium
Distal attachment – lateral surface of greater trochanter
Function – Adduction of hip; primary frontal plane stabiliser of hip; contract during late swing until propulsion  contracts to prevent lowering of other side of pelvis
Notes – functions with gluteus minimus to prevent pelvis sagging towards opposite side when the opposite limb is raised from the ground
