Peroneus Brevis

Peroneus brevis:
Proximal attachment – lower 2/3rd of lateral surface of fibula
Distal attachment – base and styloid process of fifth metatarsal
Open chain function – ankle plantarflexion and eversion of tarsus
Closed chain function – very strong pronator of the foot; assists in stabilising the foot in the direction of abduction, exerts a pronatory force at the STJ and MTJ, helps peroneus longus to transfer body weight to medial side of foot; stabilises the fifth metatarsal and cuboid posteriorly
Nerve supply – superficial peroneal (L5, S1)
Arterial supply – peroneal artery
