Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid)

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) – often used for prophylactic control of blood clotting; blocks formation of thromboxane A2 from arachidonic acid  prevents platelets from adhereing to each other and to atheromatous plaques. Used for primary prevention of myocardial infarction and prevention of reinfarction and prevention of strokes in those with a history of transient ischaemic attacks.
