Cheilectomy

Cheilectomy:
Removal of dorsal prominence and dorsal osteophytes of metatarsal head and base of proximal phalanx (allows for an increase in range of motion, if these osseous structures are limiting motion).
Usually used in conjunction with other procedures.

Procedure:
• dorsal incision just medial of EHL over MPJ
• remove osteophytes
• remove dorsal 30% of met head

Post op- stiff soled post op shoe for 4 weeks; active and passive dorsiflexion exercises; sports at 8 weeks
