Epidural and spinal anaesthesia
Difficult to reverse once established (general is not)
Indications:
General anaesthesia inappropriate
Contraindications:
Patient choice; neurological condition involving spinal cord
Epidural:
Spinal nerves blocked by local anaesthetic deposited at desired level
Spinal anaesthesia:
Complications – headache, hypotension, cauda equina syndrome, infection
