On January 31st, 2018 a chartered Amtrak train carrying Republican members of Congress to their annual issues retreat being held at Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia crashed, hitting a garbage truck at a level crossing in Crozet, Virginia. The driver of the truck was killed and another was seriously injured. None of the politicians were injured.

Several of the lawmakers on the train including the podiatrist, Representative Brad Wenstrup from Ohio provided first aid to those injured in the accident until emergency responders arrived.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, said he saw Wenstrup and Rep. Bill Cassidy, who is also a doctor, perform CPR on one of the people in the truck. “They were working on a man, deceased. CPR performed for long time. It didn’t work,” Flake said.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported:

Also, Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Rep. Brad Wenstrup of Ohio helped carry one truck passenger several hundred yards to an ambulance.
