Visualise purpose of tape as applying
Tape generally considered to loose 50% of supportive effect after 10-20 minutes of activity will still probably stop end range of motion and provide proprioceptive feedback prevent injury
Allergy/skin sensitivity
Principles of application:
• position joint to be supported in appropriate position prior to strapping – should be a stable functional position
• each piece of tape should overlap previous by about half width of tape
• care taken to conform to anatomical contours
• no wrinkles in tape
• Don’t tape after hot or cold therapy
• generally remove tape after activity
Application:
Clean skin. Remove hair. Dry area. Compound tincture of benzoin can be applied to increase adhesiveness and protect skin
Contraindications:
• skin allergy or reaction
• presence of inflammation, effusion or laceration
• potential for excessive secondary motion at another site
