Whirlpool

Whirlpool is a water tank/bath – the water is agitated and aerated by a turbine.
Superficial heat
Suitable for immersion of foot and leg
Used extensively in some clinics.

Provides mechanical agitation  massage effect on muscles
Can combine with range of motion exercises.

Can use hot or cold water

Indications:
Soft tissue injury; rheumatoid arthritis; osteoarthritis; wound debridement; post-operative mobilisation.

Ulcer and burn debridement is achieved by the mechanical effects of the moving water; hydrotherapy also facilitates the rehydration and softening of tissues, improves tissue temperature  improves circulation

Contraindications:
Peripheral vascular disease; sensory neuropathy; acute inflammation
