Whirlpool
Whirlpool is a water tank/bath – the water is agitated and aerated by a turbine.
Superficial heat
Suitable for immersion of foot and leg
Used extensively in some clinics.
Provides mechanical agitation massage effect on muscles
Can combine with range of motion exercises.
Can use hot or cold water
Indications:
Soft tissue injury; rheumatoid arthritis; osteoarthritis; wound debridement; post-operative mobilisation.
Ulcer and burn debridement is achieved by the mechanical effects of the moving water; hydrotherapy also facilitates the rehydration and softening of tissues, improves tissue temperature improves circulation
Contraindications:
Peripheral vascular disease; sensory neuropathy; acute inflammation
