Contrast Footbaths:
Alternating hot and cold. Assumed to produce a ‘pumping’ action from the vasoconstriction-vasodilation fluctuations  forces fluids out of intracellular spaces.
No published research on efficacy.
Used in post-acute phase of injury; for stimulation of circulation; may be useful in complex regional pain syndrome. Contraindicated in vascular disease and skin lesions.
Usually 2-4 minutes at 39ºC followed by 1-2 minutes at 13-18ºC for 20 minutes.
