Allopurinol:
• slows/decreases production of uric acid by inhibiting xanthine oxidase lowers blood and urate concentration
• indicated for hyperuricaemia
• well absorbed orally
• side effects – skin rashes common; fatal hypersensitivity syndrome; gastrointestinal
