Bronchodilators:
Drugs used to prevent or stop bronchospasm – indicated for asthma
B2 adrenergic agonists
• used to treat developing attack and long term control
• eg salbutamol, terbutaline, salmeterol
• given by inhalation, they are the most effective for relieving acute bronchospasm. Can also be orally administrated.
• stimulation of B2 adrenoceptor increase intracellular cAMP bronchial smooth muscle relaxation. Also suppress histamine release in the lung
• adverse effects
