Diclofenac (dye-kloe’-fen-ak):
• eg Voltaren®, Arthrotec®, Diclohexal®, Dinac®, Fenac®
• inhibit COX-1 & -2
• well absorbed orally; 40-50% metabolised on first pass through liver; 99.5% protein bound in blood (mostly albumin); metabolised by liver and excreted in urine
• adverse effects – indigestion/abdominal pain; fluid retention; skin rashes; can exacerbate hypertension and heart failure; higher risk of liver dysfunction than other NSAID’s
