Metaclopramide

Metaclopramide*
• used for post-operative vomiting, opoid induced vomiting, chemotherapy induced vomiting and migraine
• dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and agonist at 5-HT4 receptors
• enhances action of acetylcholine  increase upper GI motility
• increases gastric tone and dilates the duodenum  stomach empties more quickly
• also has effect on central vomiting centre
• adverse effects – sedation; diarrhoea
