Pituitary drugs
Growth hormone:
• eg somatrem, somatropin
• relaces hormone secreted by anterior pituitary stimulate linear growth
• indicated for pituitary dwarfism
• contraindicated – closed epiphyses
• adverse effects – glucose intolerance, gigantism with high doses
Antidiuretic hormones:
• desomopressin, vasopressin
• replace hormone secreted by posterior pituitary gland enhance resorption of water in kidneys
• indications – diabetes insipidus, nocturnal enuresis
• adverse effects – water intoxication, hyponatraemia, abdominal cramps, nausea, hypertension
