Venous filling time/Buerger’s dependency test:
Elevate limb for one to two minutes for gravity to drain place limb in dependent position – superficial veins on dorsum of foot should fill in 20 seconds. Delay indicates inadequate arterial supply.
Test is invalid if retrograde filling happens in presence of venous valve incompetence.
Has been shown to have a sensitivity of 22% and specificity of 94% for the diagnosis of an ABI <0.5 in those with diabetes
