Venous filling time/Buerger’s dependency test

Venous filling time/Buerger’s dependency test:
Elevate limb for one to two minutes for gravity to drain  place limb in dependent position – superficial veins on dorsum of foot should fill in 20 seconds. Delay  indicates inadequate arterial supply.
Test is invalid if retrograde filling happens in presence of venous valve incompetence.
Has been shown to have a sensitivity of 22% and specificity of 94% for the diagnosis of an ABI <0.5 in those with diabetes
