Most commonly the first or fifth; usually bilateral;
Hereditary
Due to premature closure of epiphyseal plate of one or more metatarsals – most commonly the fourth
Associated with Down syndrome; psuedohypoparathyroidism; poliomyelitis; Turners syndrome; Albright syndrome.
Plantar callus on adjacent metatarsal heads; toe may be ‘floating’ and have no function
Treatment:
Foot orthoses for weight redistribution; surgical lengthening of bone (bone graft)
