Popliteus Tendonitis
Uncommon. Popliteus functions to stabilise femur against forward displacement on fixed tibia overuse during downhill running.
Prolonged or excessive pronation of the foot may be risk factor.
Clinical features:
Pain in posterolateral aspect of the knee (origin of popliteus) – more common running down hill. Pain often localised over insertion of muscle.
Treatment:
Reduction in downhill running; NSAID’s; physical therapy
