Popliteal/Bakers Cyst

Chronic swelling/effusion that herniates between the two heads of gastrocnemius – either of bursa or joint capsule – often in response to damage in knee joint (eg torn meniscus)

Swelling on posterior medial aspect of knee – usually located on or slightly below the joint line (cysts of the bursa of semimembranosus are usually above the joint line).

Have been reports of ruptured Bakers cysts causing ecchymosis on dorsum of foot.
