Excessive lateral pressure syndrome

From excessive pressure on lateral patellofemoral joint as result of a tight lateral retinaculum – patella is pulled laterally despite strength of vastus medialis

Clinical features:
Can’t move patella medially; patella may be lower than usual (patella baja); retropatellar tenderness and pain

Treatment:
Manual therapy to increase mobility of patella; strapping patella medially; surgical release of lateral retinacula
