Mononeuropathy Multiplex
Focal, acute, asymmetric involvement of one or more peripheral or cranial nerves.
Usually get pain and weakness.
May be related to a microangiopathy nerve ischaemia (may be a factor in diabetes)
In late stage HIV, cytomegalovirus has been reported in the nerves.
Aetiology:
More common in diabetes mellitus; HIV infection; demyelinating neuropathies; vasculitis; granulomatosis diseases (eg sarcoidosis);
Clinical features:
Depends on nerve; usually pain and weakness.
Foot drop can occur
Management:
Treatment of underlying cause; physical therapy for pain
