Crystal Induced Arthritides

Gout:
Erosions with a sclerotic margin and an overhanging edge (from tophus deposits expanding into bone  bone reaction  sclerotic margin)
Joint space usually normal until late in disease
Relative lack of periarticular osteoporosis for the amount of erosion present
Nodules in soft tissues

Early – soft tissue swelling; typically asymmetric; oedema of soft tissues
Intermediate – punched out bone lesions  become sclerotic as increase in size
Late – interosseous tophi; joint space narrowing; deformity and subluxation
